Achoo: Sneezing, Wheezing and Allergies

High Point, NC — Have you ever spent some time in the company of cute, adorable Fluffy only to have your eyes begin to water, your nose begin to run and then the sneezing starts.  How about working outside at various times of the year, only to have the above cycle begin?

And there are those who have to be very aware of the ingredients in the food they consume due to strong food allergies and the resulting risk. If you come in contact with something to which you are allergic, your immune system considers it dangerous and releases a chemical called histamine to counteract it. The release of histamine can cause a variety of symptoms, including a skin rash, headache, sneezing, runny nose, swelling, nausea and diarrhea. The most severe reaction, known as anaphylaxis, can be life-threatening.

Many people suffer from allergies from one form or another. Some are fairly mild, more of an aggravation really, while others can be extremely serious.

Join Lori Beane, PA with UNC Regional Physicians Internal Medicine for a discussion on allergies and their causes.
